Getting started
This guide takes you from unboxing a SiFi Labs device to your first recording.
What you need
- A SiFi Labs device: BioPoint or SiFiBand (see Hardware)
- A computer with Bluetooth Low Energy (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
1. Install SiFi Bridge
SiFi Bridge is the software used to control SiFi Labs devices. It comes in two flavors — pick the one that fits your workflow:
- SiFi Bridge CLI — An interactive command-line shell. The quickest way to discover devices, stream data, and record to file without writing any code.
- SiFi Bridge Python — A Python API for building custom pipelines, automating experiments, and integrating with NumPy, Pandas, and ML frameworks.
If you're unsure, start with the CLI: it requires no programming and covers the full device feature set.
2. Connect and record
Follow the quick-start guide for your chosen interface:
- CLI quick start — Discover, connect, configure, stream, and export data in about 5 minutes.
- Python quick start — The same workflow, driven from a Python script.
3. Work with your data
All data is yours, in open formats, with no cloud services involved:
- Data output — Export to CSV or HDF5, and understand the data format.
- Transports — Stream in real time over Lab Streaming Layer (LSL), TCP, or UDP to tools like EEGLAB and OpenViBE, or to your own applications.
- Recording time calculator — Estimate on-board recording time and streaming bandwidth for your sensor configuration.
Research applications
SiFi Labs devices are used in research worldwide: psychophysiology, sleep research, human-computer interaction, neuromuscular research, prosthetics and rehabilitation, sports science, and biofeedback.
